Shop Feature: Lisa Christine Designs

This weeks Shop Feature is Lisa Christine Designs by Lisa Miller. What I love about this cute little jewelry store is it seems her designs are a representation of the ocean or the sea which I love and it is easy to match since I seem to like to wear jeans.

1. How did you come up with the Name of your Shop

Well I went with my name because I know that I will never get tired of it! I am just getting my career as a jewelry designer started, and I didn't want to tie myself down to a particular theme or style. I plan on having names of different lines as I produce more work.

2. Tell us a little bit about your shop and what you think makes it unique?
I sell a variety of jewelry, all handmade by me. I love working with sea glass because the colors and shapes are never exactly the same, which means every piece I make is one of a kind! Sterling silver is my favorite metal to use, especially with the sea glass because it reflects light through the glass which shows off the color very well. All of my inspiration comes from nature, mainly the ocean. I love using patterns, colors and shapes from nature and treasures that I find along the beach. This gives the wearer a little pieces of my "happy place" to carry with them, and I hope it becomes their's too!

3. What is your favorite item at the store and why?

It's so hard to pick, and it changes almost every day! Right now I'm loving these earrings:

They are dichroic glass set in sterling silver. I absolutely love the colors in these, I love how layered they look, and remind me of the shimmering surface of the ocean. As much as I love these, I do have some new products coming soon that might take first place on my personal favorites list!

4. What inspires create your products?

The ocean! I have always dreamed of being a mermaid, and I love making and wearing jewelry that make me feel like one. I grew up on the water, and I think this is what has made me so drawn to the ocean. I am fascinated by the treasures the ocean brings to us, from the tiny pieces of sea glass I use in my work, to the massive pieces of driftwood that look like sea monsters. When I am beachcombing, I completely lose track of time. I could stay out for hours filling up bags of whatever looks interesting to me. My room is overflowing with jars and vases of treasures, and I love sorting through them to see what will be used in my next pieces.
I love selling my work because I love sharing my adventures with others. Talking to customers who are as excited about my jewelry as I am is the highlight of craft shows for me. I am so happy that I can share my passion with others and that something I have made can brighten someones day.

5. Where can we find you?

I live in Baltimore, MD and I currently attend school at Towson University. I will graduate from the Metalsmithing and Jewelry program with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in May 2014.

7. What advice can you give for other sellers out there for their shop?
Don't get discouraged!! There are SO many Etsy shops out there, it might take a while for yours to get noticed. If you don't sell things as quickly as you like, it doesn't mean that no one likes your products. Market yourself as much as you can; Facebook, Twitter, blogs are all great for getting peoples attention. I am lucky to have family and friends that share my page and hand out my business cards for me, and always give me a little (or a lot) of support when I need it.

Now some fun facts about you

8. What is your Favorite Food?
I always have such a hard time answering this question because there are so many foods that I love, and what I'm in the mood for changes by the hour. Recently, my favorite thing has been baked sweet potatoes. I just can't get enough of them! I put a little butter and some cinnamon sugar sprinkle from Trader Joe' on them and its absolutely delicious!

9. Describe us one positive event in your life in your life that you felt was a miracle to you or that you knew the Universe was there watching over you.

Meeting my boyfriend my sophomore year of college. We lived in the same building and I had never seen him before until one day I happened to be walking down the hall with my friends and he walked out of his room and we just started talking. Sometimes I think about how if any tiny little detail of that day had gone differently we might never have met. He is my best friend and is always there to make me feel better if I am feeling discouraged or had a bad day. He helps keep me motivated to work hard and believe in my future as a jewelry artist. I don't know what I would do without him!

10. What is your favorite vacation spot and why?

Avon, North Carolina. It is in the southern part of The Outer Banks. My family has been going to The Outer Banks every summer for about 10 years, and I always look forward to it. If you aren't familiar with The Outer Banks, it is a tiny strip of islands off the coast of North Carolina. The southern part is small villages interspersed with miles of national seashore and wildlife reservations. It is a beautiful place, its is never too crowded and its the perfect place to truly relax.
